One of the most important notions in the game of golf is the concept of handicap, assigned to each amateur player in order to compete more equitably with more experienced golfers. In short, this is an advantage that is assigned to the participants of amateur tournaments: essentially, the more a player is good, the less they are allowed to close each hole. The maximum number of extra hits per hole in Italy is 3, so in a conventional round of 18 holes you can have at most 54 strokes of advantage.
How do you get the handicap in golf?
The allocation of the advantage takes place according to precise procedures. A novice player as soon as has is membership with the FIG is classified as NA (Non-Enabled player). It will therefore be able to access only the Club House and the Driving Range, where it will acquire a minimum playing ability and a basic knowledge of the rules of conduct in the course. The other step will be, after acquiring these first notions, to have a certificate issued by a qualified professional or the Club Handicap Committee that will evaluate the possibility of making it GA (Enabled player). With the issuing of a certificate, the “green card”, the player receive the suitability to use the course. If the GA player wishes to continue his / her journey towards obtaining an EGA Handicap, he / she must participate in a summary course and pass a final test:
The Italian Golf Federation requires the attendance of a review course on the Rules of Golf and the Etiquette. The courses are held by instructors CCH enabled by the CCH: to participate in any course you must be registered (even through free membership) and have the status of GA.
