«Play the ball as it lies.Play the course as you find it.And if you can not do one or the other, do what’s right, but to do what’s right, you need to know the Rules of Golf.»
The rules of golf are a set of standard rules and procedures with which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and managed by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (go to the R&A Rules) , the governing body of golf all over the world, other than the United States and Mexico, which are the responsibility of the United States Golf Association. An expert commission composed of R & A and USGA members, supervises and perfects the rules every four years. In Italy it is up to Federgolf (Go to the FIG Webpage rules.) to overwatch the competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the clubs, associations and their members and manages the resulting sports justice, protecting all their interests abroad. The rules of golf are relatively complicated compared to other sports because they are used outdoors, close to nature and to animals. Compliance with the rules is a basic element in the game of golf, and is based on self-control and free conscience of the players. In addition to the rules, golf adheres to a code of conduct, known as “Etiquette”, which generally means playing the game with due respect for the golf course and other players. The Etiquette is an essential component of this sport. There are booklets released by the R & A useful to the player on the course for doubts that may come during the game (Go to the booklet).
